Unlocking the true power of smartphone connectivity in the car

New line of Multimedia receivers sports supreme connectivity with the latest iPhone® and selected Android™ smartphone devices, making the Connected Car a possibility for every driver

Pioneer Electronics, a leader in aftermarket car electronics, expanded its Multimedia receiver lineup with the announcement of four new models to further weave connectivity into the driving experience. The latest models of the Multimedia receivers deliver superior smartphone connectivity, supporting the latest Android™ platforms (4.0 and above for compatible Android phones) as well as Apple™’s latest iPhones (5S®, 5C®), and mobile operating system iOS7®. They are also Pioneer’s first multimedia receivers to provide USB compatibility with selected AndroidTM smartphones, providing users the ultimate convenience of plug-and-play features. Drivers and passengers with the latest smartphone devices can also look forward to an even more seamless and connected in-car experience with the newly introduced integrated steering wheel control function. The Multimedia receiver series is now joined by the following four models:
·         7” wide VGA Touch Panel Display: AVH-X5650BT, AVH-X4650DVD
·         6” wide VGA Touch Panel Display: AVH-X2650BT, AVH-X1650DVD
“Smartphone devices today present endless possibilities in connectivity, and at Pioneer, we are constantly striving to extend it fully in the car to enhance every journey,” said Mr. Masayoshi Ishikubo, Senior General Manager of Pioneer Electronics AsiaCentre. “Our new range of Multimedia receivers ensures that every car becomes transformed into a ‘Connected Car’, with the ability to harness the true power of smartphone connectivity through our AppRadio Mode technology (for iPhone® users) and MirrorLink™ (for Android™ users), giving drivers control of their smartphone applications through our receivers,” he added.
Powering up the car with AppRadio Mode
Previously known as Advanced App Mode, Pioneer has extended the boundaries of today’s connected lifestyle with AppRadio Mode,  empowering drivers with control of their compatible iPhone® smartphones directly from the dashboard. Delivering seamless connectivity and ease of use, AppRadio Mode provides drivers compatibility with a myriad of applications to enhance every journey and make every car a connected car.
Direct control from the driver’s seat
Bringing connectivity one step closer, the new range of Multimedia receivers now allows for customized steering wheel control, without the fuss of installing additional accessories. Drivers get to control certain functions and features directly from the steering wheel, and can even configure the buttons to specific functions of their preference. With easy configuration steps, drivers can easily play a music track, adjust the volume levels, skip the track, or even make a phone call directly via the steering wheel[1].
Expanded smartphone connectivity
1)      Compatibility with the latest Smartphone models and operating systems
With the plethora of smartphone devices available in the market today, Pioneer’s new range of products embraces today’s connected lifestyle and wide range of consumer preferences. The Multimedia receivers sport compatibility with the latest iPhone® models[2] through Pioneer’s AppRadio mode, so that drivers and passengers can control the compatible applications[3] running on the latest Apple™ iOS7® operating systems directly from the dashboard.
These new receivers are also now compatible with the latest selected Android™ devices running on Android™ operating system 4.0 or later[4]. Users can now simply plug in to browse, select and listen to music stored on their device to a compatible Pioneer Multimedia receiver without the support of a phone application. This process is made possible using Media Transfer Protocol (MTP), which allows the receiver to recognize the smartphone as a music storage device. Users can now access music via USB stored on selected Android™ devices.
2)      MirrorLink™ compatibility for selected Android powered devices
Catering to users on the increasingly popular Android™ platform, Pioneer’s latest Multimedia receivers also provide the options for connectivity through MirrorLink™[5]. With MirrorLink™, users have the convenience of having voice reading capabilities, and have their weather, schedule and messages read out to them. Delivering true applications connectivity, users are empowered to view and control compatible third-party smartphone applications directly via the WVGA touch screen on their car dashboard. Through MirrorLink™, users get to enjoy direct access to the wide range of compatible applications such as audio and entertainment applications (TuneIn®) and navigation applications (Waze®).
An array of capabilities
The newly launched Multimedia receivers continue to boast functional features that make them easy and convenient to use. With Bluetooth® connectivity, users will be able to enjoy the luxury of hands-free calling and stream high-quality audio wirelessly through their receivers. All new models launched also come with MIXTRAX, a Pioneer technology which creates a unique nonstop listening experience by seamlessly transitioning between songs with DJ-inspired effects such as cross-fading, high-pass filter, and phaser, allowing users to turn any car into a roving cool club.
The Pioneer AVH-X5650BT, AVH-X4650DVD, AVH-X2650BT and AVH-X1650DVD will be available at Pioneer authorized dealers this October 2013.
